Fàilte, welcome to Scotland.

Scotland welcomed us with a big storm and heavy rain.
The weather was pretty much unpredictable all the time but it also produced a variety of light that can only be described as magical.

The scenery on Skye is beautiful, with rolling hills, high mountains, countless waterfalls and a spectacular coastline.

The Black Cuillins are the most prominent mountains on Skye, beeing visible from all directions.
Their peaks have martial names that tell their own story:
Am Bastier: "the executioner"; Sgurr a Ghreadaich: "the peak of torment"; An Garbh-choire: "the wild cauldron".

The Quirang and the Old man of Storr are two of the highlights of another spectacular mountain range, the Trotternish range.

Our visit to the tiny village of Elgol was rewarded with a spectacular sunset over the Black Cuillins. There are various opinions as to the meaning of the name, 'Elgol' or Ealaghol in the native Gaelic. Some suggesting 'The Noble Dale' and others 'The Weeping Swan' (folklore details the story of a Viking captain who perished when his longboat named 'The Swan' came to attack the people of Elgol).

During our visit we stayed at "Taigh an t-Sithein", a beautiful cottage at the shores of Tianavaig Bay, overlooking the Narrows of Raasay.
Special thanks to our hosts Marie and John Cameron who gave us a warm welcome and made us feel at home. Thank you.
